France swelters under record-breaking temperatures

The country's weather service expects the current heatwave to be “widespread, prolonged and intense”, with temperatures in some areas potentially topping 40 degrees Celsius.   Paris will still hold its Fete de la Musique celebrations, but local officials in other regions have cancelled the event.
